I am on a quest for "country ham" preferably sliced and packaged. Is
there anywhere in Austin that sells country ham. I have looked for it
at all the major grocers and have let the stores hamless. Any tips
appreciated.

Most HEB's and CM's have 5.5oz packages of sliced Smithfield
country ham in cryovac packages. At CM, it's in with the hot
dogs, and at HEB's, it's next to the center cut ham slices.

CM also sells whole Smithfield brand dry cured hams (and slab
bacon).

And they're relatively cheap (for CM) @ $2.99/lb.

Replaying to the same post 3 times...

They are 12oz packages, center cut and boneless for under $4.00.
I thought the packages were smaller. The prices weren't marked
at CM, but I'm sure they were $3.n9 something last time I bought
it 4 months ago.

I didn't see any whole hams tonight.

Speaking of CM, I pointed out that their Crab and Broccoli
chowder had no crab in it and all the guy could say was "Are you
sure?", as he pointed his infrared thermometer at me and told me
"Oh, you're hot" - like a kid with a new toy. He and his
meat/seafood buddies laughed and they all lickety-split.

He's lucky I didn't whack that thermometer out of his hand when
he pointed it at me.

This reinforces my theory that anytime you get more than 1 one
butcher/fishomonger together, they're complete assholes - no
matter what the store. I'm be mentioning this to CM tomorrow in
a "very hot" email.

I think I've seen them at Central Market north occasionally, next to the
far end of the meat counter. I'd give them a call.

Cracker Barrel in Round Rock... Dunno about their hams
but they have good pistachio nuts...
